I do not like to comment too soon after an incident, and I will not take shots at the entity that suffered the attack so early in the investigation (in fact, I probably never will take those shots).
But the fact remains that children died again today at the hands of violence in Minneapolis, MN. At a 10:55 AM News Conference on 8/27/25, MPD Chief, Brian O’Hara said just before 8:30 AM, at a mass in progress at the church associated with the Annunciation School (Pre-K through 8th grade), a killer approached outside and began firing a rifle through the church windows at seated children. The killer also had a shotgun and pistol (all 3 of which it seems were used). 2 children, 8 & 10 were killed where they sat. 17 others injured (14 of whom are children, 6 of which and 1 adult are now reportedly in critical condition). Killer committed suicide on site. Sole male shooter, in his 20’s. No known extensive arrest history. Shooter may have barricaded 2 exit doors.
There are “seems”, “reportedlys” and “may have’s” in all that. There will be more of those maybes associated with the killer, the response, the wounded and the school over the next few days. Some will be absolutely false. Eventually, more truth in all these categories will be discovered.
Here are some truths we’ve spoken for years that remain unchanged.
I am overwhelmed with appreciation for all of you who have willingly stepped into the protection role in our faith based organizations. This incident today is why you do what you do.
THANK YOU for being Ready, Willing and Able.
