A lot of terms get thrown around that are politically motivated to draw attention to a select world view. One example is that of bias attacks and hate crimes.
Many do not understand how our 22 years of research have found that only 5.05% of deadly force incidents associated with faith-based groups are “bias attacks” (motivated by a desire to kill those of a particular race, religion or people group). Some feel every report of a deadly incident of a particular people group should be classified as a hate crime.
For example, one of the headlines this weekend was, “Security Guard Stabbed at Islamic Center in Frisco, TX.” That might seem like a cut & dried case of a bias attack.
Except, the man who stabbed the Islamic security guard as he was praying, was a fellow Muslim who regularly attends the mosque there.
So, this one will not go into the books as “bias motivated” even though the headlines might insinuate that to some.
