The number one reason American churches are in court, is the abuse of a minor. As I have often said, it is not a Catholic issue as misinformation promulgates. Before those of you who are not church goers get excited, it isn’t even just a church issue. For that matter, it isn’t even just an American issue.
Abuse of children, especially sexual abuse, is a global issue.
I heard a Q & A broadcast where a caller asked, “can Satan or his demons read our minds?” The show host responded that they don’t have to. They have data of no less than 6,000 years of human observation, including specific observations of you and your family’s history, to know how, when, and where to tempt you. There is way too much of this issue in human history.
You might not consider the past as you plan the future, but your enemy is doing it.
While this specific issue of child abuse isn't only an American issue, or one applicable to only a specific denomination, it is abundant in American churches. Those of you who follow this series of things to think about, need to be thinking about it.
At the FBSN annual summit event next week in Kentucky, we will hear from experts in this field. They will teach how church security operators can be effective at keeping that most vile threat out of our individual churches.
Think About it
The preponderance of, and destruction from, this most vile risk is a mountain we must move. It is going to take both faith (Matthew 17:20-21) and action (James 2:14-26) to do that.
Security operators know to look for those things that “don’t look right” (DLR’s).
If you are aware of something in your church that doesn’t look right to you, but you don’t know who to talk to about it, there is help available. The Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention has teamed with the Southern Baptist Convention to offer a help line to assist you in navigating any such issue you may be aware of. That help line (phone call, text or chat as you wish) is: https://ecap.net/sbchelpline.
If you just want to understand your reporting obligations in your state, go to: www.childwelfare.gov
We can’t prevent everything, but let’s get left of bang on this one.
Let’s move this mountain.
