Domestic Violence Spillover: The Deadliest Threat to Houses of Worship

  • Breakout Session
  • room ATCR206
  • July 24 2026 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

While bias motivated mass shootings dominate headlines, the data tells a different—and far more dangerous—story for churches and ministries. Drawing from over 25 years of incident data from the Faith Based Security Networks Deadly Force Incident Study, this session reveals that domestic violence spillover is the single deadliest threat to house of worship security.

Using verified data and case studies from deadly incidents at U.S. ministries, this session examines how personal relationship violence—restraining orders, custody disputes, stalking, and separation crises—crosses into church spaces with devastating consequences. Attendees will see how these incidents differ from stranger attacks, why they are so often underestimated, and how warning signs are frequently dismissed.
